Looking for a little architectural/design/photographic/artistic inspiration or interaction?

I recommend a visit to a pecha kucha night -- I had my first taste when one was held in Auckland recently and found a packed room of various creative worlds happily colliding, sharing and mixing.

The pre-arranged participants in pecha kucha were given the chance to tell the crowd about their design, new building, piece of furniture, photographs or thoughts they wished to share.

They did this with twenty images, and each image was shown for 20 seconds. People talked along with their slides, one guy played some music.

Presenters (and much of the audience) were from the design, architecture, photography, art and creative fields.

It was a fantastic way to see what was happening Auckland, and meet other creative people.

These events, orginally started in Tokyo by a British architect, are run around the world, and participation is encouraged by anyone who has something to show or say.

I'm sure there would be plenty of shapeshifters who would enjoy an outing to one of these!

Check out their international homepage : http://www.pecha-kucha.org/

Hello all. I am a stranger to Brisbane and have just completed 12 months of chemo. I have not worked for a few years now and am looking to get back in to the swing of things. I am keen to look at anything really. I have been an actor and teacher of drama most of my life and over the past ten years developed a personal development program that I am reworking. So if any one anywhere needs a hand or is looking for someone to undertake nonspecific work. I am new to this site and have just had the thought that this is not the correct way to use it. Oh well. Get in touch. Thanks.

Sometimes, through the everyday, we just need a little inspiration. Change our focus for just a moment or two. The Wish Jar is a gift from author Keri Smith, the author of Living out Loud (and other wonderful books). She is an author illustrator and guerilla artist. I don't know Keri personally and normally I do not mention those I do not know personally but what she is offering this little inspiration called 'the artists survival kit" with a list of things one can do to simply motivate oneself or simple activities one can do (simple, creative, beautiful). It is for the artist in us all. And I had to share! You can read alittle more about Keri, The Wish Jar and her love of 'lists' on her personal blog. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did!
I have recently been involved with Creative HQ a business incubator for Creative Businesses with High Growth and Export Potential. The impact of incubators is amazing and I would like to commend any one in New Zealand contemplating entering business with large scale or high growth aspirations in the creative sector to consider Creative HQ as a home for their business.

Beware I work with companies at Creative HQ so my views are biased!

A thing I have just observed with a client today and it applies in the design and related fields. Is that people are often trained, such that they are very democratic in their way of decision making. Democratic decision making works fine much of the time. However, there comes a time in every creative business when the democracy stops and the business owner has to be bold and take the decision as a veto over the ideas of a team. This is a painful process when it occurs, and creative people are reluctant to make those calls. However, business is no democracy, the buck stops with the owner. So don’t let the fallacy of democracy cause you to suffer agony in pleasing all of those involved in your creative business. Instead, accept the reality and make that decision quickly and with focus. The pain to all will be less than the agony of democracy inside your business.

What do you think of this?

I'm researching coaching as a management style in the UK Creative Industries, as the final assignment in my MA. If you are a manager or worker in the UK Creative Industries, please help me by completing a questionnaire.

I'll be making the finished report available for free download from my site - so this is an opportunity to contribute to the debate about management in the Creative Industries that will (hopefully!) be read by quite a few people.

My research project is at http://www.wishfulthinking.co.uk/research

Questionnaires for managers: http://www.wishfulthinking.co.uk/blog/2006/07/14/questionnai...

Questionnaire for employees: http://www.wishfulthinking.co.uk/blog/2006/07/14/questionnai...

If you fall into both categories, you're welcome to fill out both questionnaires.

Also please pass on the URL http://www.wishfulthinking.co.uk/research to anyone who might be interested.

Thanks in advance.
I often need to use freelance web developers but I haven't yet found any that fulfill all my requirements enough to forge a good relationship.

I'm looking for someone who is :
1. Pro-active (in their own projects and also helping our business)
2. Not only excellent with the basics, but stays up to date with current technologies
3. Flexible
4. Preferably in London (however, I don't mind where they are if they are super easy to work with elsewhere.)
5. Experienced
7. Not charging exorbitant rates
8. Creative in finding solutions.

PLease let me know if you know of anyone who could perhaps fit these criteria.
