who's doing well in the recession - my theory

Whilst the retail sector and those who supply it are certainly having a hard time in the current climate I'm hearing that some folks are actually doing better in the recession.

In particular I'm hearing that those in small agencies are doing well, especially those in digital agencies whose products & services offer greater bang for buck than broadcast solutions.

How does this stack up with what you’re hearing? What are the reasons for this do you reckon?

Is it because now is actually a good time to take risk if you’re a client … perhaps because failure is easier to write off as the recession not the idea, perhaps because you just can’t afford to be a follower in this climate, perhaps because clients are looking at their budgets and can see that what is a small budget in broadcast terms is quite a substantial one in cross-platform & multi-media project budgets???

If you have a view on this or any examples to share I’d love to hear about it.

I like this posting!

Yes, there is a collective of multimedia artists in Miami who are thriving (http://www.miamithinkers.com), because of what you said - they aren't followers and make their own rules. The art community has developed substantially in Miami because of the annual Art Basel fair the first week of every December...and perhaps because Miami has always been a place to break the rulez...he he he.
