Contacts to exhibitions in Europe

I have plans to spend three months in Europe from June on. I need a help to contact agents, curators, galleries and publishers in order to develop opportunities to show my work. I would also llike to have information about events that may have social and aesthetic themes which is the content of my work, and of course, I would love to meet good people to chat and share experiences.

These are some texts and photos that u can check at my site:
http://www.aliceramos.com.br

-Redondamente Enganado / Roundly Mistaken - A dive into the universe of chubby women. The photographs from fatty naked women impress, when disclosing beautiful models that oscillate between healthful 70 and 130 kg.

- 2 de fevereiro / February 02 – A popular party commemorate the Day of Iemanjá “The Queen of the Sea” in the Afro Culture. On the sand of the beach, the presence of religious creates a mystic atmosphere full of amazing images enhanced by drums, songs and rituals. In the sea, hundreds of hampers with perfumes, soaps, mirrors, flowers and jewels are taken by the fishermen in procession. According to the tradition, if Iemanjá like the presents, they will be in the bottom of the sea. But, if she doesn't like, the offerings will return to the beach, for the sadness of the devotees.

- Abrigados / Sheltered - Scenes that portray the resignation, solidarity, smiles and the loneliness of children and elderly in asylums, hospitals and orphanages.

Dear Alice,

have a look at www.artquest.org.uk - a very comprehensive site designed to help artists in many aspects of their working practice. If you are looking specifically for photographic contacts then you might want to google London Independent Photographers - this would connect you to photographers working in London. Alternatively the professional association you could look at for help is the Association of Photographers.

if you have specific questions do drop me a line and i'll either answer them or put you in touch with people who can answer them better than I.

best

Alice,
now I've thought about it some more.....
have a look at Gina Glover's work www.ginaglover.com - she has worked in mental institutions and hospitals, she was one of the founders of Photofusion (www.photofusion.org). If you think she would be a useful contact I will introduce you.

You might also want to have a look at The Photographers Gallery http://www.photonet.org.uk/index.php?latest and you might want to get a copy of Portfolio magazine (they have a gallery also - in Edinburgh - and the editor is Gloria Chalmers).

There are several photography galleries around the UK. If you consider yourself a photographer rather than an artist then I'd go for these galleries. If you see yourself as an artist working with photography then don't go for these. One good example would be Open Eye gallery in Liverpool, the director is Patrick Henry (he's excellent) http://www.openeye.org.uk/ .

There are also a lot of photographic stock libraries but I'm not sure that you're interested in these? not really useful for exhibiting opportunities.

If you want more then drop me a line

Dear Alice,

I have some tipps of magazines and exhibitions in Austria that may be of interest for you:
There is a very well known and highly reputable magazine focused on photography and media arts, its name is Camera Austria (http:///www.camera-austria.at) - the text is also in english. Unfortunately I'm not linked to the people there.
Two very good exhibition spaces in Vienna for photos are a place called Westlicht (http://www.westlicht.com) - their website is also in english - and Fotogalerie Wien (http://www.fotogalerie-wien.at) - unfortunately their site is only in german.

And by the way there is a woman called Lisi on Shapeshifters, who is photographer herself and is probably more into the photo-world than I am.
If you have further questions please let me know
All the best
Susan

Lumas (http://eu.lumas.com/) could be interesting for you. I guess that it is quite hard to get in. But than again I don´t know very much about this industry.

They have started to open up gallery shops where you can buy photography starting from 200 Euros up to 1500 Euros and more in several locations in germany & europe. They started 4 years ago and now already have 8 galleries. Their business model seems to work out quite nicely.

So why not try & give it a shot.

Good Luck,
Peter
