looking for crossovers in the arts field

I'm looking for crossovers (between different art disciplines, or between an art discipline and another field of work) that have been created within cultural incubators. I would really like to talk to the initiators of these crossovers, and find out what stimulated the creation.
The reason is that I'm doing research on this subject for my Master thesis on Arts Management at the Utrecht School of the Arts.
Also If you are not an initiator yourself but you do know about an interesting/inspiring crossover project, please let me know.

I just wrote a posting about a fascinating firm in Vienna that does amazing things on the crossroads of Art and Gardening. This is their link: http://www.weidlfein.com
As far as I know this was started without a cultural incubator. Nevertheless I thought it might be interesting for you. The person I know at Weidlfein is Bernd.

Then I thought about another fascinating project in Toronto. Check out www.evergreen.ca and look for the the "Brick Works" project on their site. It will be a "center for experiencing the relationsship between nature, culture and community". The project is fascinating and there is an incubator as well. When I was there in Toronto I met with Lynsey Kissane and she introduced me to Brick Works. Good luck and send her my best wishes.

Hey Marijke,

two recommendations form Berlin. – Both People I already worked with myself:

One is StadtkunstProjekte http://www.stadtkunstprojekte.de/ in Berlin. They focus on the collaboration between Art and Architecture in the public space. I myself had the opportunity to realise one of my own projects „Fata Morgana“ in this context together with my former professor for architecture Tom Heneghan http://www.ManuKumar.com/ref9x6-kl.pdf I can’t tell you exactly what the are doing at the moment, because I haven’t heard of them for quite some time.

The second recommendation is the dance company Labor GRAS http://www.laborgras.com/ also located in Berlin. I already realised two projects “virtural window” and “melting point” together with them (researching on Space / Technologies / Interaction ), and others will follow – I am sure of that! A really inspiring experience!
They are always on the search for creatives from outer disciplines.
Cheers Manu

Marijke,
you might find some relevant projects at Urban Art Projects. Contact Matt or Daniel Tobin, the owners of this business. They undertake an enormous amount of art built-in projects that are collaboration between artists and architects, many of which are with indigenous artists. I am pretty sure that they would have completed some projects that come from cultural incubators. (though i am not quite sure exactly what you mean)

Hi,
I work for a local city government in Auckland, New Zealand(Waiatkere City Council).

We have developed over the last ten years a process of integrating art into the fabric of our City. The process involves putting together an architect or engineer and an artist. The artist is brought onto projects at the concept stage and is considered a vital part of the design team. the process delivers results that are quite different than what would have been if the concept was developed by just the architects alone.

If you goto WWW.waitakere.govt.nz and search the document "the heart of this place" you will get a booklet that we published a few years ago outlining the process.

As with most collabortive processes, each project developes it's own set of issues that need to be balanced. I must say it can be at times frustrating, but always produces results that we otherwise would not have seen. The resulting urban spaces are more connected to the users and speak of our city rather than any city.

If you cant find the link, email me and I will send through a PDF of the book.

Cheers

Mark

Hello all,

Thank you so much for your comments. In September I finished my Master Thesis on this topic successfully: now I am officially graduated and may call myself a master of arts management.
greetings Marijke
